Art and Story Time I guess? Uh. So I went to the U. S. Botanical Garden yesterday for one of their program thingies they're trying out for teens, and it was kind of a disaster for many reasons. I got another baby cactus though, and I came up with a Part Two to Murphy's Law, which I've decided to call Sigma's Law. Sigma's Law goes something like this: "Anything that can go wrong, already has gone wrong, and by the time you realise it, it will be too late to effectively do something about it." To be perfectly honest this law quite literally describes my whole life and not just my experience that day trying to get there.... Anyway. Time to get to the "Art" part of this Art and Story Time!
[Image Description:
A scanned image of a traditional art drawing made with pencil, coloured pencils, and black inking pens. The drawing is of a dark blue common octopus with orange five orange rings on each of their eight tentacles. The octopode's tentacles are spread out around their body, and they have two very large black eyes. The octopus is on an all white background, and inbetween the two frontmost tentacles is the name Reynie L'Autore. By the top of their head and in the space between some of their back tentacles is my signature. End of image description.]
Here we have Autore in his octopus form! He is very blue and very shy. <3
[Image Description: A scanned image of a traditional art painting done with water colour. The painting is of a large cacao leaf with its stem and veins clearly accentuated. The background is white paper, and underneath the leaf in messy cursive is 'Theobroma Cacao April 14, 2019' as well as my signiture.
At the Botanical Garden thing, we were given a leaf and told to sketch it to the best of our ability and colour it in before we went off to identify what it was. They gave us coloured pencils and water colours, and the smart thing for me to have done is used the coloured pencils, right? I'm wayyyyyyy better at using those and there were more colour options. What do I use though? The water colours. And it gave you the mess you see before you because I cannot paint for the life of me. If you're interested though, this is a cacao tree leaf. It looked and felt a lot like a fake plastic leaf, but it was definitely very real. There are actually quite a lot of cacao trees at the botanical garden, as well as other tropical plants. The tropical plant bit of it is actually in the center of the whole building, and is actually the largest exhibit there. It's very steamy and hot in there, especially in the summer time. There is also a little catwalk/platform area so you can go up and look down at it on the sides. It's a pretty cool place, but my favorite bit of the whole botanic garden is either the desert exhibit or the orchid exhibit.
[Image Description: An image of a scanned traditional art drawing made with pencil, black inking pens, and coloured pencils. The drawing is of a teenage person in side profile, sitting on the ground with their head in their hands and their elbows resting on their knees. The person has brown skin and very long, curly brown hair that is obscuring their face and hands. They are wearing a lime green tank top and black jeans and are not wearing shoes. There is small messy writing behind their head that is supposed to be dialogue. It reads "Oh stars.... I'm going to die." Below the writing is my signature.
Aaaaaaaaand now we have a very sad Rainer, just realizing that they are going to die. Yeah, they're not doing too good. They need a hug.
Anyway, that's all for this post??? I'll put up another one at some point where I introduce you to all my succulents, but until then, may you have all the luck in the stars!
